The palanquin, China, 19th century Folded fan, the double sheet of paper painted with pavilions opened by terraces. Figures observe the movement of servants and horsemen escorting a dignitary on a palanquin. Two servants lead the procession with banners fluttering in the wind, in blue silk in relief. All wear silk clothing and an ivory head* in relief. An inscription in Chinese calligraphy above the portal indicates "???", i.e. a group of houses. Reverse side painted in blue (restoration). Ivory* frame cut and engraved on both sides with garden scenes with characters, pavilions, boats and bridges. H.t. 28,3 cm - H.f. 12 cm (wear, missing, restorations) In a black lacquered wooden box decorated in relief with three large figures in silk clothing and ivory heads*. Under the lid, oval label of the workshop "Volong [in] Canton". (accidents, missing parts) Gross weight : 115 g
