GRANDVILLE. The Metamorphoses of the Day. Accompanied by a Text by Messrs Albéric Second, Louis Lurine, Clément Garaguel, Taxile Delord, H. de Beaulieu, Louis Huart, Charles Monselet, Julien Lemer. Preceded by a notice on Grandville by M. Charles Blanc. Paris: Gustave Havard, 1854. - In-8, 260 x 170 : (2 ff.), XXVIII, 283 pp. 70 plates. Black herringbone percale, special gilt and polychrome plates on the boards, title and name of the artist in gilt letters on the first board, smooth spine decorated with a gilt and polychrome plate, gilt edges (publisher's binding). Famous work gathering 70 woodcut plates in colours after the compositions of GRANDVILLE. It is the reinterpretation in woodcut and in first edition of the majority of the lithographs of the artist published for the first time by Bulla in 1828-1829 in the album bearing the same title. These plates are accompanied by texts by several authors, which appear here for the first time. Copy in publisher's hardback decorated with special plates reproducing two compositions by Grandville. Cracking at the hinges. Some foxing.
