The Dream of the Doctor. About 1498. Burin. 120 x 190. Bartsch 76; Meder 70 e. A very fine proof on thin laid paper, trimmed to the subject, the square line partly perceptible, possibly washed, pasted by three corners on vellum, with the scratch through the sleeper's left shoulder and a few other scattered scratches. On verso, stamp of Theodor Falkeisen (1768-1814) and Johann Friedrich Huber (1766-1832), engravers and print dealers, Basel (Lugt 1008, erroneously given in 1921 to H. Füssli, son of the famous painter, an error carried over by a handwritten note on the verso of the frame); unidentified pencil initials (EA?) (Lugt 3755, seen on early prints). Frame.
