Complete collection of this famous avant-garde review created by Pierre Albert-Birot
.
Published from January 1916 to December 1919, it counts 54 issues divided into 41 deliveries. If the first 3 issues were composed by the founder of the magazine, from issue 4 began the collaborations of Guillaume Apollinaire, Luciano Folgore, Gino Severini, Pierre Drieu-Larochelle, Paul Dermée, Pierre Reverdy, Philippe Soupault, Jean Cocteau, then Tristan Tzara, Louis de Gonzague-Frick, André Breton, Louis Aragon, Osip Zadkine, Jules Romains, Raymond Radiguet, etc. The illustrations are also sometimes honored, with reproductions of drawings or engravings by Pierre Albert-Birot, Leopold Survage, Apollinaire, Irene Lagut, Gino Severini, Zadkine, etc..
According to Dominique Baudouin, the contents of this review can be identified as follows: "texts of aesthetics or criticism the most diverse, of the manifesto in the pseudo-dialogue, the report in the free comments or in the fast chronicle of Etc. Texts of creation, essentially poems, printed with a superb variety of page setting: SIC is one of the places where the poetry exercises all the play of its graphic reality. With this care goes the regular concern of illustration: futuristic plastic expressions, cubist drawings, ballet or theater sets, reproductions of sculptures are part of the magazine. Finally, of course, the whole range of small echoes, inserts, announcements - "A work on Negro art. Programme de SIC ambulant" - shows the vitality of the magazine engaged in its time " (Dominique Baudoin, in. Bibliographie des revues et journaux littéraires des XIXe et XXe siècles, III, p. 16).
The deliveries are from 8 to 32 pages. One counts several special numbers of which the 17 devoted to the Ballets russes Cubistes and Futurists, the triple number 27, 38, 39 composed in homage to Guillaume Apollinaire, etc. The number 7 of July 1916, is enriched with a plate in colors, drawn to the stencil, of Alice Rutty.
Copies as published, being part of the ordinary edition. The paper used was not always of good quality so several issues are fragile and have tears. The first and last leaf of issues 33 and 47-48 are loose. Number 13 has a repair on the back. Staining, sometimes heavy, to issues 1, 40-41, 42-43, 44, 47-48, 51-52 and 53-54. Freckles and stains to a few issues.
