A baluster-shaped porcelain vase enamelled in the famille rose style, China, 20th centuryDecorated with a reclining man holding a fan in his hand, he is dozing under a pine tree, a jue cup and a fruit basket filled with grapes and peaches placed in front of him, while a monkey tries to steal a peach. Two children watch the scene in front of a large pierced rock, one seated holding a pine branch in his hand while the other holds his hands close to his mouth seeming to alert the man to the theft. A calligraphic poem and three seals complete the decoration. The interior of the vase is enameled in turquoise. Apocryphal Qianlong mark with four characters in blue on glaze in a double square at the base. Height: 32 cmThe calligraphy is an excerpt from a Tang period poem by Cen Shen (715-770), itself inspired by a poem by Liu Changqing (709-785) "Dispatch from the Taoist Hanjin to Qingcheng Longxi"- 身同雲虛無,心與溪清澄。誦戒龍每聽,賦詩人則稱。杉風吹袈裟-"The body is as empty as the clouds, the mind as clear as the stream. The dragon always listens to the song of precepts, and the poet calls it a poem. The breeze blows through the cypress tree. The potter added as an introduction to the poem: 猿猴 也傾聴 - "monkeys and macaques listen with respect".
