Two hla ha necklaces, Chin ethnic group, Naga, Myanmar, 20th century- One composed of muntjac teeth, two copper alloy bells, two shells on a blue natural fiber base and metal washers strung on six threads. Length: 61 cm- The other composed of teeth of muntjac, two elements in copper alloy, a shell on a base in natural fibers of beige color and metal washers threaded on three threads . Length: 48 cmThis type of necklace is worn at a wedding in the "Chin" ethnic group of western Burma. The teeth of a muntjac (small deer) are offered by a suitor to the father of a young woman as a marriage proposal. The teeth are then sewn onto a natural fiber cushion by the bride to create her "hla ha" necklace worn at the wedding.
