ALEXIS (Paul). Émile Zola. Notes from a friend. With unpublished verses by Émile Zola. Paris : G. Charpentier, 1882. - In-12, bradel red cloth overlay, smooth spine, untrimmed, cover preserved (period binding). First edition, illustrated with a portrait of Zola by de Liphart in frontispiece. Eleven unpublished poems by Émile Zola occupy the last 100 pages. ONE OF THE 5 NUMBERED COPIES ON CHINESE PAPER (n° 2), unknown edition by Vicaire and Talvart et Place. It comes from the library of the lawyer and bibliophile Alidor Delzant (1848-1905), friend, secretary and executor of the Goncourt brothers, with his bookplate engraved in etching by Loviot. A very well preserved copy, enriched with a portrait of Paul Alexis drawn and engraved by Desmoulin and two caricatures of Zola pasted at the end, taken from newspapers. There is a red stamp in Chinese on page 270.
