CONSTANT (Benjamin). - Lot 60
CONSTANT (Benjamin). Political reactions. Second edition, increased by the examination of the effects of the terror. S.l., An V [Paris, Mourer et Pinparé (?), 1797]. - In-8, unbound and placed in a grey muted cover. Partly first edition, published only a few weeks after the original, of this political work intended to answer the polemics that Benjamin Constant published in 1796 under the title "De la force du gouvernement actuel de la France et de la nécessité de s'rallier". Unbound copy, covered with a later grey cover. Missing the false title. Mottling on the title, scattered freckles. We join, by the same author : - ADOLPHE, anecdote found in the papers of an unknown man. Fourth edition. Paris : Dauthereau, 1828. - In-24, red calf, cold plate with cathedral surrounded by a gilt fillet on the boards, spine with small ornate nerves, gilt border inside, spotted edges (period binding). Charming small edition. Copy in a period binding with cathedral. Minor rubbing to the headpieces, corners slightly dulled.
