Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) Camille Pissarro,... - Lot 302 - Ader
Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) Camille Pissarro, by himself. About 1890. Etching and drypoint on zinc. 175 x 185. Delteil 90. A very fine proof printed slightly off-key on "mbm" watermarked laid paper, annotated by the artist "1er Etat n° 19 / Portrait de C. P" then signed. Clear trace of oxidation at the opening of an old mount. Small remains of tabs and traces of glue at the head on the reverse. All margins [260 x 360]. Edition of 28 prints during the artist's lifetime. Posthumous edition of 22 prints. Ex-coll. K. Sponagel-Hirzel (Lugt 2929a). Despite the artist's inscription, this is actually the 2nd of 2 states. The very first known state is very rare. The artist probably intended to continue working on this plate - but apparently stopped at this state.
