Désiré-Émile INGHELBRECHT (1880-1965). 2 L.A.S. ("DEI" and "Colette-Inghel"), 1911-1912, to Steinlen; 4 and 8 pages in-8, one envelope. Beautiful letters to his father-in-law at the time of the Ballets Russes. 9 November 1911. Urges Steinlen to intervene with Maurice Couyba to have him reformed for "delicate health"; he fears being sent to Morocco; Colette, his wife (Steinlen's daughter), finishes the letter and shows herself even more worried. - Vienna, February 16, 1912. Having missed their train, because the King [of Italy] "came unexpectedly to see The Spectre of the Rose," they have just arrived in Vienna, and Inghel tells at length of their tribulations to find a hotel and to recover the musical material blocked at customs; it is cold and they are exhausted. "Did you know that in Dresden the musicians had promised to play badly because I was French, my name must have fooled them at first, which explains their affability at the first rehearsal? He had to replace Pierre Monteux until the 25th: "I will nevertheless talk to Diaghilev tomorrow because this life of flying camp can only become more and more expensive if it continues temporarily without offering me the material and moral benefits of Monte Carlo and Paris"...
