Jehan RICTUS. L.A.S., Paris, June 11, 1919, to Paul Fort; 4 - Lot 264
Jehan RICTUS. L.A.S., Paris, June 11, 1919, to Paul Fort; 4 pages in-8. Beautiful letter about Paul Fort's collection Les Enchanteurs, which he has just received just before his departure for Brussels, "with its friendly dedication and even more than friendly". He wants to tell him what he thinks of it, accusing the lack of courtesy that reigns in literary relations, and reproaching the "zigoteaux" who receive a book without replying to it for making it "a pebble thrown into a bottomless pit without echo". As for him, he has always answered, "even to the smallest of booklets, most of the time without value". Then he speaks about the poems of Paul Fort which seem to him "more condensed and more rarely chosen than usual. Or at least they have a more accentuated unity than in the other volumes". He quotes the parts he liked and compares Paul Fort "to the Spring Bee which, in spite of the cannonade, goes out to collect in the flowers every day, whatever happens. Your poems give the impression of being kneaded with the juice of flowers, their various colors, their perfumes; it is whipped cream, snow eggs, a lot of soft things so sweet to our stomachs of Brutes! [...] one finds there the intoxication of the things, the birds, the insects, the trees and the grasses", etc. He greets him: "Goodbye, big bee"...
