The one of his mother, signed and dated on the left: Cécile Colombet 1844 Annotated on the reverse: "Mme Colombet / née Marie HUGUENEY / at 54 years / died on June 6, 1870." Her father's (split) signed and dated on the right: Cécile Colombet 1846 Annotated on the reverse: "Jean Colombet / died on June 3, 1847 / at the age of 72 years " Size : 14 cm x 10,5 cm In two frames with round visor, diam. at sight : 11 cm (one frame cracked). Gross weight : 283 gr Provenance: Preserved in the artist's descendants The portrait of the artist's mother was made in 1844, the year of the artist's entry into the workshop of François Meuret. It was obviously painted with great care and love. His mother is seen from three-quarters to the left, brown curls on her temples, wearing a black dress with a white lace collar. A miniature of a young brown woman mounted on a brooch is stitched on the neckline: could it be a self-portrait of Cecile Colombet? The portrait of her father was done in the same format in 1846, a few months before his death. Jean Colombet, seen from three-quarters to the right, is wearing broad sideburns, a black lavaliere tied around a raised collar, and a three-piece suit. In accordance with regulations that came into force on January 19, 2022, intra-European Union trade in ivory is subject to obtaining a CIC certificate. Re-exportation outside the European Union is prohibited.
