Rashti-duzi embroidered textile with floral decoration, Northern Iran, Rasht, 19th centuryLarge textile panel embroidered with polychrome silk threads hooping in patchwork pieces of colored felt according to the gul-duzi-rasht technique. Dense floral decoration with central field lining on a red background framed by several friezes of flowers on a background alternately beige and black. Border of boteh on red background belted with a blue fringed braid. Textile lining ecru with rings of suspension. 189 x 129 cmGeneral wear , missing braid, stains on the lining . The gul-duzi-i-rasht technique used here is a technique associated with the city of Rasht, which already supplied the court in the Safavid period with exceptional textiles. It consists of an inlay of textile pieces by sewing. Shapes are cut out of the background fabric and replaced by others of the same outline but with contrasting colors fixed by a sewn thread.
