*ORLÉANS (Philippe, duke of). The Revenge of the Ice Floe. A summer of drift in the Kara Sea. Paris : Librairie Plon, Plon-Nourrit et Cie, 1909 . - In-4, blue half-maroquin with corners, gilt filets, spine gilt, untrimmed (Albert Günther, Vienna). First edition of the account of the scientific and hunting expedition conducted in 1907 in the Arctic aboard the "Belgica" by Philippe, Duke of Orleans (1869-1926), great grandson of Louis Philippe. The illustration includes numerous photographs reproduced in black in the text and on full page, as well as 13 plates, including 4 double plates, giving the reproduction of 20 photographs, 9 of which are reproduced in heliogravure, two paintings and a map of 1598. Accompanying the appendices, there are also 8 colored maps, except one, of which 6 are folding, 4 natural history plates and 39 pages of tables. Copy on vellum paper, offered by the author to Prince Philippe of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (1844-1921), bearing an autograph letter from the author on the second blank page. Spine slightly faded, some rubbing from use. Attached, by the same author : - A TRAVERS LA BANQUISE DU SPITZBERG AU CAP PHILIPPE. MAY-AUGUST 1905. Paris : Librairie Plon, Plon-Nourrit et Cie, 1907. - Large in-8, red half-maroquin with corners, spine gilt, untrimmed, cover preserved (period binding). First edition illustrated with a heliogravure portrait of the Duke of Orleans, several hundred black photographs reproduced in the text and on full page, 10 color plates under captioned serpents and 2 folding color maps out of text.
