During the second half of the 1940s, Weegee made a series of images in New York movie theaters using film that was sensitive to infrared light . Exploiting this part of the light spectrum, invisible to the human eye but printing the photographic surface, allows the shooting in a context of low light. The photographer is thus able to surprise scenes and behaviors, normally impossible to discern in the darkness of the room. Whether it is with the flash, which he used on crime scenes, or as here, with the help of specific films, Weegee gives to see what is usually hidden from the eye.
