"In the early 1890s, Pierre Bonnard spent significant time creating lithographic illustrations for two books of musical scores for children. These series of illustrations were made in collaboration with the artist's brother-in-law, Claude Terrasse, a pianist and composer. Bonnard's illustrations for Petites Scènes familières are full of whimsy and humor, but also have a more serious side; some suggest reverie, melancholy, and even nightmares."
