A lot gathering two ancient female and male... - Lot 110 - Ader
A lot gathering two ancient female and male statuettes, with particularly cubist characters. The woman wears a labret with her lower lip protruding under her chin and temporal scarifications; the man, whose head was largely amputated in the past and most probably ritually, is in a posture with one arm raised over his head and the other over his sex, showing a very beautiful twisting movement of the whole body from behind. See for the female statuette: a very similar statuette (Dégué -Dégué) collected by P. Langlois in the village of Djamina (canton of Sangha - circle of Bandiagara), and published no. 26 page 38 in Les Arts Plastiques-Art Soudanais-Tribus Dogons, published by Éditions de la Connaissance Bruxelles and Librairie Marcel Évrard, 1954. Dogon, Mali Wood, wear, small visible accidents and old lacks, ritual removals, and very beautiful patina of use. H. 28.5 cm and 31.5 cm Provenance: - Collected by Marcel Évrard - Former Marcel Évrard collection
