Ancient sculpture of a suspension hook decorated with two masks back to back. In the Chambri lakes region these double-sided hooks are called Mari / Yambuke samban in reference to the name of two mythological brothers. Several comparable suspension hooks can be found in the collections of the Musée du Quai Branly collected during the Françoise Girard mission. Lake Chambri region, Middle Sepik, Papua New Guinea Hardwood, old visible breakage of a part of a hook, beautiful patina of use.
