Ancient and very beautiful male nose ornament. In the classic form of a curved crescent, evoking a crocodile adorned with pig's teeth, this nasal ornament ends in two large loops through which a rod was passed laterally into the pierced nasal septum. Worn by the men among other occasions of funerals or head hunts this type of nasal ornament could also be attached to skulls or masks when they embody ancestors. Probably Iatmul, Middle Sepik, Papua New Guinea Pig's teeth, fiber basketry, nassa shells, very nice patina of use.
