Gilt bronze and painted clock, decorated with a figure of Ar - Lot 111
Gilt bronze and painted clock, decorated with a figure of Ariadne or Venus asleep, surmounted by a circular dial with Roman and Arabic numerals with blue painted drapery supporting a figure of cupid sitting on a cushion; (probably with a base originally). After the model of Jean Goyer. The dial signed by Jacques-François Vandercruse (1724-1796), clockmaker in Paris. Louis XVI period. H : 41 cm, W : 28 cm, D : 19 cm This clock model is illustrated in the Livre de desseins kept at the INHA (Paris) which indicates that it belongs to Jean Goyer, son of François Goyer (died in 1763), both cabinetmakers specialized in clock cases.
