Astrolabe clock signed "Hour Lavigne Horloger... - Lot 454 - Ader
Astrolabe clock signed "Hour Lavigne Horloger in Paris since 1848" mounted on a wall panel with two gilded and brushed metal dials. The small one, located above, with Roman numerals indicates the hours with gilded steel hands. The large one, in the form of a simplified astrolabe, shows the signs of the zodiac and a calendar ring on the spider. Three hands form the sun, the moon and the nodes (dragon shaped). In the center, a terrestrial half-sphere hides the pinions. With this dial one can determine the position of the sun in the sky, the local and sidereal time, the position of the moon... Both dials have a protective globe. The movements are quartz and are protected by brass covers. It is a model of the astrolabe clock imagined by Hour Lavigne in the 1970s and declined under various models. 44 x 34 cm Charles Victor Hour started as an apprentice in a clock factory in 1848. As he climbed the ladder he took over the workshop in 1881. He then joined forces with Maurice Lavigne to found "Hour Lavigne". This factory became one of the most important in France in the category of bronze and art watches. Charles Hour founded the Chamber of Watchmaking of Paris in 1875 as well as the School of Watchmaking. The brand remains renowned for the quality of its products.
