Two wooden netsuke representing a monkey... - Lot 98 - Ader
Two wooden netsuke representing a monkey and a horse, Japan, 19th centuryThe monkey standing in a strangely modest position hides his pubic area with one hand and seems to cover his chest with his folded arm and his hand placed on his shoulder. Its two long legs are reminiscent of those of Ashinaga, the craftsman may have wanted to give the monkey a human position. Two himotoshi are made in the back at the level of the lower back and under the posterior. The eyes are inlaid with what appears to be a grey glass half-pearl. The horse is shown reclining with its legs tucked underneath it, its mane falling on both sides of its neck and its head slightly lowered and turned to the right. Large himotoshi under the animal. Height: 10 and 3 cmAccident and repair to the feet of the monkey .
