[CURIOSA - PIEYRE DE MANDIARGUES (André),... - Lot 132 - Ader
[CURIOSA - PIEYRE DE MANDIARGUES (André), under the pseudonym of Pierre Morion]. The Englishman described in the closed castle. Oxford & Cambridge [Paris : Jean-Jacques Pauvert], 1953. - In-8, paperback. Pia, 54. - Dutel, 1016. clandestine first edition, out of trade, of this erotic novel by André Pieyre de Mandiargues, dedicated "To the memory of E.J." meaning Edmond Jaloux . The design and layout are due to Hans Bellmer. "This work printed in black and red on wove paper was to be illustrated with 7 original engravings by Hans Bellmer [...] this project did not succeed because of the difficult requirements of the artist and his delay in delivering the copperplates. Pauvert then gave the copperplates to Georges Visat. These plates engraved in 1953 appear in Mode d'emploi published in 1967 by Visat with a text by Bellmer" (Dutel). The edition was completed on June 2, 1953, the date of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth of England. Two other clandestine editions followed, also under the pseudonym of Pierre Morion, before the work was condemned in 1955. Slightly sunned cover .
