Victor HUGO. Autograph poem, [Lueur à l'horizon, 1854]; 1 page in-8 (lined on the back with fine Japanese paper). First draft of this poem collected in Les Quatre Vents de l'esprit. Lueur à l'horizon is dated in the edition "Jersey 18 mars 1854"; the poem will be collected in 1881 in Les Quatre Vents de l'esprit, piece XXII of the "Livre lyrique" La Destinée. This draft gives a first version of the first six quatrains, with alternative variants. "I dream dream, a clear ray gleams on the sound wave, The lighthouse says it is dawn and blows its torch I would like to know the things I do not know [...] What is the point? The sailor looks at the deep water, And whistles while raising the anchor and who is going to fly away Let the sea and the ocean rumble Let the man whistle ". Attached is a L.A.S. from his wife Adèle Hugo, December 22, to a lady, for a children's party (1 p. ½ in-8).
