Manufacture Royale d'Aubusson from the 18th century - Lot 113
Manufacture Royale d'Aubusson from the 18th century Wool and silk tapestry after an engraving by Jacques Stella (1596 - 1657) Very good condition, the borders are missing, lined 255 x 340 cm Bibliography : - Philippe Aries, L'Enfant dans la vie familiale sous l'ancien régime, éditions du Seuil, 1973, page 136 - Dominique, Pierre Chevalier et Pascal - François Bertrand, Les tapisseries d'Aubusson et de Felletin, Solange Thierry éditeur, Paris, 1988, pages 94 and 95 Exhibitions: - France in Paris at the Jacquemart André Museum, 1984, reproduced in the catalog page 88 - Japan in Tokyo at the National Museum of Tokyo in 1984 reproduced in the catalog page 22 Provenance : Former Chevalier Collection This scene represents winter treated as an interior scene (a rare thing); in fact by a process called "exploded" we can see the outside of the house while inside there is a large fireplace in which a fire is heating a cauldron and, sitting in front of it, a whole family with children, parents and grandmother, is warming up. The faces have been woven more finely following the process known as "interwoven warps", weaving generally carried out by a workshop manager, the bright colors of the costumes and embers giving relief to the scene. There is no known example of this model in this state to date.
