[ENTOMOLOGY]. [ANONYMOUS]. Entomology. Method of Latreille. In French, manuscript on paper, brown ink, with pencil drawings (some unfinished drawings). France, ca. 1850-1870 (?). 148 ff, multiple pagination, in sheets inserted in a brown chagrin wallet, smooth spine with lettering : " Entomologie. Méthode de Latreille", framed on the boards, one copper clasp (the other one missing). Good condition inside. Size of the leaves : 220 x 272 mm ; size of the portfolio : 230 x 290 mmBeautiful handwritten work, increased with very precise drawings of insects, mostly drawn in ink and pencil . Some spaces have been left empty for unrealized drawings. This may be a publication project. Known as the "Prince of Entomologists," Pierre André Latreille (1762-1833) was a French entomologist who authored numerous works on insect taxonomy. The present work, whose chapters are signed with the initial "B" without further details, takes up Latreille's taxonomy: "There is in the annals of science a very large number of works relating to the classification of insects. We will follow in this work that of Latreille, with some modifications introduced by contemporary entomologists and which are generally adopted" (p. 10).
