Portrait of an armed cupbearer, Iran, 19th century, in the Safavid style Ink drawing enhanced with gold and colored pigments depicting a man wearing an imposing turban with an egret, carrying a goblet to his lips, a bottle in his left hand. He is equipped with a rondache, a bow and three arrows and a sword and a khanjar are tucked into his belt. Double frame illuminated in gold with vegetal friezes, the margin painted in gold and in polychrome with a vegetal decoration punctuated with fleurons. Dim. at sight : 27,3 x 15,6 cm ; painting at sight : 16,1 x 8,6 cm Folds, stains, wormholes, wetness. This work is based on the portrait of the Abbasid Caliph Haroun al-Rashid by the artist Kamaleddin Behzad, which is kept in an album of paintings in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France in Paris (Arabic 6075, fol. 9r) A Safavid-Style Portrait of an Armed Cup-Bearer, Iran, 19th century Private collection in Paris from 1975 to 2000 - first part (lots 120 to 173).
