Georges Braque (1882-1963){RC}Paris (Paris... - Lot 99 - Ader
Georges Braque (1882-1963){RC}Paris (Paris 1910 or Still Life on a Table). 1910-1911. Etching. 273 x 195. Vallier 3. Very nice proof of the 1910-1911 edition, on Auvergne laid paper. Soiling and fingerprints in the irregular and unbalanced (normal) margins [332 x 225], with small (original) losses at the edges. Very rare. Only a few proofs were printed at the time the engraving was made. Later, in 1954, 30 proofs were printed on tinted Arches. Dora Vallier suggests the date of 1911 for the realization of this etching. Indeed, in 1910 Braque was not yet very familiar with engraving, and especially the print had not yet been integrated into his painting, as part of his joint research with Picasso on cubism. She quotes the artist: "Always in the desire to get as close as possible to a reality, I introduced letters into my paintings in 1911. They were forms where there was nothing to deform because, being flat areas, the letters were outside of space and their presence in the painting, by contrast, allowed to distinguish the objects that were in space from those that were outside of space. (" Braque, the painting and us ", remarks of the artist collected by D. Vallier in Cahiers of Art, 1954, I, p. 16).
