Rock crystal perfume fountain, the vase of baluster form and the oval basin, the gilt bronze frame with openwork decoration of sea monster and foliage and gilt bronze; (chips in the lid). H: 31 cm Provenance: Former collection of André Saint at the Château de Sainte-Mesme Several identical fountains are listed, one of them was sold in Paris, Palais Galliera, on November 24, 1976, lot 35. André Saint (1871-1933), whose collection of paintings, furniture and objets d'art is known from the famous catalog of his sale at the Galerie Charpentier on 20 and 21 May 1935 under the gavel of Maître Étienne Ader, brought together his acquisitions made at the end of the 19th century in his châteaux of Sainte-Mesme and Brétigny as well as in his apartment on the rue Rude at the corner of the avenue Foch. Born into a wealthy family of industrialists specializing in spinning and rope-making, André Saint succeeded his father Charles at the head of the Saint-Frères company, which had up to seventeen factories, thirteen of which were in the Somme region and one in Belgium, as well as more than one hundred and thirty outlets in France, North Africa and Latin America.
