JEAN LERAT (1913-1992) - COLLECTION LERATCross , 1958Crucifix . Stoneware, enamel. Signed J. LERAT, in incised letters on the backHeight : 25 cmProvenance : Lerat Collection. To note : This work is referenced under n° 1037 in the Lerat archives. [In the 1941 contract with the gallery owner François Guillaume, from the beginning of Jean Lerat's career at La Borne, the demand for representations of saints, Christ, the Virgin and nativity scenes was very prevalent. The Rouard Gallery in Paris, from the time of their collaboration with Jean and Jacqueline, provided them with a display case while ordering religious works which from 1946 to 1965 represented 25% of the works sold. With the exhibitions, their religious creations attracted the attention of Fathers Régamey and Couturier who engaged them in their approach to the renovation of sacred art. Jacqueline refused to make Christ on the cross]. F.L.
