FRENCH, is due to Benjamin Duvivier (1730-1819). Diameter : 6,3 cm Smooth edge Augustin Pajou realized at the dawn of the Revolution this project of medal for the abolition of privileges. A leading figure of neoclassicism at the end of the Ancien Régime, Pajou responded to the National Assembly's call for projects voted on August 19. Attentive to events, the artist is probably trying to regain the official commission while the royal favor has left him since the death of Louis XV his protector. The very first parliamentary archives mention this project to commemorate the decree of August 4, 1789 renouncing privileges. It is finally the project of Pierre-Simon-Benjamin Duvivier, famous medallist, occupying the office of General Engraver of the Coins of France between 1774 and 1791, which is chosen by the parliamentarians (see: Project of the medal to be engraved following the abolition of the privileges, at the time of the session of August 19, 1789.
