Paul Victor GRANDHOMME (Paris, 1851 - Saint-Briac-sur-Mer,... - Lot 31 - Ader
Paul Victor GRANDHOMME (Paris, 1851 - Saint-Briac-sur-Mer, 1944) Nymph at the water's edge Copper plate with painted and gilded enamel decoration Signed lower left: "Grandomme Pinx Size : 4,6 x 6,7 cm This Parisian initially jeweler discovers a passion for the arts of fire by reading the fundamental work of Claudius Popelin The Art of Enamel. He then learned enameling techniques at Gagneré, exhibited his first work in 1874 - a neo-Renaissance enamel portrait - before joining the workshop of Puvis de Chavannes. He then joined the most renowned Parisian workshops in this art of fire, and in 1877 he joined forces with his student Alfred Garnier. The two collaborators were inspired by Gustave Moreau's works, as Frédéric de Courcy had done previously, while remaining very attached to the traditional production of painted enamels from Limousin. Their painted pictures combining both the modernity of Art Nouveau and the inspiration of the Renaissance were successful. Many of their works are now kept in museums.
