Jean BONIER (Clermont, 1817 - Annecy, 1875) - Lot 124
Jean BONIER (Clermont, 1817 - Annecy, 1875) Self-portrait Original canvas 46,1 x 38,1 cm Provenance: Sale Me Sadde, Grenoble, March 12, 2018, n° 214. Two oils on paper by the same artist are attached. While studying at the Academy of Turin, Jean Bonier was sent to Paul Delaroche's studio in 1835 where he stayed for ten years. After his training in Paris, Bonier returned to his native Savoy. We know little about the rest of his career: he participated a few times in the Salon and painted a large number of portraits of the notables of his region. At the end of his life, he moved to the Toulouse region where he produced several wall decorations for private mansions. Another self-portrait by Bonier went on sale in Dijon (Me Sadde, November 6, 2014, no. 220).
