[ENLUMINATION]. [BIBLE]. Historiated initial P. Saint Peter seated holding a book, blessing Leaf from a Bible. End of the Epistle of James. Beginning of the First Epistle of Peter. Tempera, gouache and gold leaf on parchment. France, Paris (?), middle or third quarter of the 13th century. Dimensions : 140 x 190 mm Good general condition. This elegant leaf comes from a known manuscript, of which several other leaves were described in the McCarthy Collection (see P. Kidd, The McCarthy Collection. Vol. III French Miniatures, McCarthy Collection, vol. III (2021), no. 20, pp. 85 ff.) and several of whose leaves were sold by the London bookseller Maggs from 1994. Kidd gives a partial list of some of the identified leaves, with a total of 12 known leaves. This leaf is not a priori included in the list and would be the leaf to be inserted between two leaves of the McCarthy Collection (BM 1119F and BM 1119C).
