New edition of this important work, constituting "the first somewhat lucid summary of the history of Germany" (Larousse du XIXe siècle, IX, p. 142).
It is the masterpiece of the German historian Johann Heiss von Kogenheim (1615-1688), first published in 1684. This new edition is important because it has been expanded with historical and political notes and was continued by Franz Adam Vogel, "Grand Juge Des Gardes Suisses", until the time of publication.
A precious copy, of a rare elegance, bound with the arms of Charles-Jean-Baptiste Fleuriau d'Armenonville (1686-1732), count of Morville, lord of Armenonville. He was in turn received as a lawyer of the King at the Châtelet on August 19, 1706, counselor at the Parliament of Paris and prosecutor at the Grand Council on March 14, 1711. "Ambassador to Holland in January 1718, he obtained, on the resignation of his father, the office of secretary and grand-cross of the order of Saint-Louis, on April 24, 1719, the portfolio of secretary of state in the department of the navy, on April 9, 1722, and was received as a councillor of state on the 11th of the same month; he entered the French Academy on June 22, 1723, left the navy to become minister of foreign affairs on August 10, 1723, was created knight of the Golden Fleece on October 22, 1724 and was named protector of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bordeaux in October 1726; he resigned from his offices of Secretary of State and Secretary and Grand Cross of Saint Louis on August 19, 1727 and became, at the death of his father in November 1728, Bailiff and Governor of Chartres" (OHR, Pl. 1485).
Spines very slightly faded. Slight spotting and small loss at one joint in the fourth volume. Tear to folio N1 in the second volume, without affecting the text.
