First posthumous edition, partly original, of the works of the dramatic author and historiographer of the king Germain-François Poullain de Saint-Foix (1698-1776). It was published by Abbé Joseph de La Porte (1714-1779), author of the Éloge historique which opens the collection. The first two volumes include the theater followed by the Lettre à M. de Saint-Aubin sur la Retraite de Mademoiselle d'Angeville and the Lettres Turques imitated from Montesquieu's Lettres persanes. The three following volumes contain the important Essays on Paris in which the author gives opinions new at the time, satirical and sometimes licentious. The last volume is devoted to the History of the Order of the Holy Spirit. Esprit. The edition is illustrated with a portrait of the author engraved by Nicolas Le Mire after Saint Aubin and Marillier for the ornaments, and two plates engraved by Halbou and Le Beau after Marillier. One notes a pagination error in the first volume, from 284 to 297 without missing. ONE OF THE COPIES ON LARGE HOLLANDE PAPER, BOUND BY BRADEL LE JEUNE. The latter was the brother of Pierre-Alexis Bradel, called the elder. He practiced in Paris at the end of the 18th century and the very beginning of the 19th century at 1 rue d'Écosse in the Sainte-Geneviève district. The copy bears his label stuck to the back of the first guard of the first volume. A very well preserved copy. Brown band in the margin of pages 12 and 13 in the fourth volume.
