Dark green morocco, spine ribbed and decorated in the center with the BV monogram mosaicked in red morocco, framed in dark green morocco inside, decorated with five gilt filets and two cold filets, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved, case (Semet et Plumelle). First edition forming the ninth title of the "Original Collection". It is illustrated with seventy-two original woodcuts by Henri BARTHÉLÉMY (1884-1977), including one on the frontispiece, one on the title and the others in the text, at the head of a chapter or in the cap. ONE OF 34 COPIES ON IMPERIAL JAPON, the second paper after a single copy on old japon, this one being one of the nine hors commerce, specially printed for Valère Bachmann. The latter was the son of the wife of Georges Mornay, founder of the publishing house, who took over the company in 1935. A very nice copy bound by Semet et Plumelle, WITH 14 ORIGINAL DRAWINGS USED FOR THE ILLUSTRATION OF THE BOOK, pasted on japon at the end of the volume. Spine slightly faded.
