Claude MONET (1840-1926). L.A.S. "Claude,"... - Lot 20 - Ader
Claude MONET (1840-1926). L.A.S. "Claude," London Tuesday evening 7:00 [March 1900?], to his wife Alice; 4 pages in-8 on the letterhead of the Savoy Hotel. Beautiful letter about his work in London. He complains about the weather: "you do not have the fog that so often obstructs the sun. Unfortunately, as the barometer is falling in Giverny and it seems that it will not last, I would be desperate for my poor paintings, which are beginning to worry me, and I am wondering if I will not have to come back next year. It is the weather between now and the end of the month that will decide, for I am doing my utmost and I am beginning to get tired of this continual work without a day's rest"... He spent "a good evening at G. Moore's [the art critic George Moore] an interesting old boy. We chatted a lot about Paris, Manet and others, art in general, what pleased me was to see several sketches of Manet, and Degas etc. At 10 a.m., he drove me back on foot by an admirable moonlight and I spent a long time admiring the Thames from my balcony"...
