Joseph-Henri ROSNY Elder. Autograph manuscript,... - Lot 180 - Ader
Joseph-Henri ROSNY Elder. Autograph manuscript, [Les Conquérants du Feu, 1929]; 95 pages in-4. Complete working manuscript of this prehistoric tale, published in 1929 by Éditions des Portiques, and republished, followed by other primitive tales, in 2014 by Les Moutons électriques. The manuscript, in tiny, tight handwriting, on mostly double-sided leaves, numbered from 1 to 91, is overloaded with erasures and corrections; it also has numerous additions, between the lines (on the last few pages, the lines are widely spaced to allow for elaboration) or on glued-in crutches or extra leaves. At the top of several sheets, Rosny has written the number of lines, as well as the dates of rereading, from June 12 to July 31, 1929. The text has been divided into two parts and chapters (mostly unnumbered). I The Enigma of Prehistory. - I The Ancestor of the Ancestors. In the Tertiary Darkness: "When did the first men live? When did the Ancestor of the Ancestors appear in the depths of the forests?"... - The Dawn of the Quaternary. - The proud craftsmen of Solutré, the amazing artists of the Madeleine. - After the Madeleine to the Neolithic. - The Copper and Bronze eras. - II The Iron Age. - I The Hallstatian Era. - Second Iron Age: La Tène period. - Religion. - The prehistoric Germans. - The origin of man. On page 85, Rosny has pasted an excerpt from a review; at the end of the last page, Rosny has sketched a conclusion to summarize "the spirit of this book," referring to page 3.
