Henri ARNAULD (1597-1692) Abbot of Saint-Nicolas, brother of the great Arnauld and the abbesses of Port-Royal, Jansenist bishop. L.A.S., Rome July 3 [for August] 1646, to "Monseigneur"; 2 pages folio (one edge reinforced).
He admits himself "extraordinarily surprised to see that V.A. was not satisfied with what happened between her and Mons. le Cardal Grimaldi. I will not fail to write to the Court all the things that it orders me and in the terms that I must, i.e. proportionate to the extreme desire that I have to be able to be happy enough to meet the occasions to give him proofs of my respects", etc...
