Gabriel-Julien OUVRARD (1770-1846) financier, munitionary of - Lot 399
Gabriel-Julien OUVRARD (1770-1846) financier, munitionary of the armies under the Revolution, the Empire and the Restoration. Manuscript with corrections for a supplement to his Mémoires; 409 pages in-fol.
Important manuscript of an unpublished supplement to the Memoirs, prepared for printing, in which one can distinguish several hands, with numerous partly autograph corrections and additions, and crossed-out and deleted passages. It is unfortunately incomplete, and paginated 27 to 138, and 152 to 430 (with sometimes a double pagination; the end is missing). The Memoirs of G.-J. Ouvrard on his life and his various financial operations, had appeared in 1826-1827 at Moutardier, in 3 volumes. This manuscript is later, as indicated on page 27 on his relations with Séguin: "this part of my memoirs gave place to several observations to which I believe to have to answer"... He also quotes documents which appeared during his trial
In addition to his relations with Séguin, Ouvrard returns on the affair of the markets of Bayonne, and the hostility of Villèle seconded by Champeaux, chancellor of the consulate of France in Madrid; his relations with the duke of Richelieu; development on the importance of the Public Credit, "cause and effect of the civilization"; another long development on the States of South America (with quotation of a letter of Baring of August 10, 1828), with a plan "to regulate and complete the emancipation of South America"; considerations on the role of the Bank of France...
Some versos bear chapter titles: "2(bis) Afres d'Espe", "3 Rachat de l'impot français", "4 Emprunts crédit public", "10 exploitation de l'Amérique indépendante".
A copy of the Memoirs (1826-1827, 3 vols. in-8, worn bindings, defects) is enclosed.
