Armand-Jean du Plessis, cardinal de RICHELIEU (1585-1642). L - Lot 427
Armand-Jean du Plessis, cardinal de RICHELIEU (1585-1642). L.S. "Armand Eves de Luson" (bishop of Luçon), Angers October 20, 1619, to the duke of Luynes, peer of France; the letter is written by his secretary Denis Charpentier; 1 page in-fol., address with small red wax seals with arms on purple silk lakes (a few small wormholes without affecting the text).
Interesting testimony of the fragile reconciliation of Louis XIII and his mother Marie de Medicis, four days after the solemn entry of the Queen Mother in Angers, escorted from Les Ponts-de-Cé by the marshal of Bois-Dauphin and 1500 horsemen.
"As soon as the Queen arrived here I did not want to fail to testify to you in this letter how much she recognizes the King's affection for what concerns her, Monsieur le Mareschal de Bois-Daulphin having been there with a large number of nobility. I will also tell you how much His Majesty truly loves you, assuring me that you are more and more aware that she is a Princess by word of mouth, and that for nothing in the world would she want to fail in what she has promised. She is sending Sr. Le Conte to the Court, to dispatch the business which is most pressing to her. I believe that you will appreciate how important it is that you take care to have him expedited promptly, which I do not ask you to do, Monsieur, knowing well the particular care you will have for him, but to continue to honor me with your kindness, which I will make myself worthy of by all the services you may desire...
