SWEDEN. Charles, count de MORNAY (1803-1878) diplomat. Manus - Lot 440
SWEDEN. Charles, count de MORNAY (1803-1878) diplomat. Manuscript, Fragments de la correspondance du Comte Ch. de Mornay, ministre de France, près la Cour de Suède et de Norwège, 1835-1845; in-fol. of about 570 pages, bound in black chagrin, cold-stamped fillets on the boards, gilt edges.
Interesting diplomatic correspondence.
The count de Mornay was appointed in 1835, after his mission in Morocco where Delacroix accompanied him, ambassador in Stockholm. The letters are copied with great care and are very legible.
There are more than 280 letters from December 14, 1835 to October 10, 1845, addressed to the various ministers of foreign affairs: the duke of Broglie, the count Molé, Soult duke of Dalmatie, Thiers and Guizot.
Mornay relates all the events which occurred in Sweden and at the Court, in particular the death of Charles XIV (Bernadotte) on March 8, 1844 and the advent of his son Oscar I.
