Manual abécédaire, or the first elements... - Lot 74 - Ader
Manual abécédaire, or the first elements of reading. With Henri Vincent, Imp. Lib. Luquiens l'aîné, Libr. Luquiens cadet, Libr. A Lausanne. 1802. In-16 (13,1 x 8,8 cm). Faux-title, 142 pp. 4 folded plates: period covers of grey-blue paper, label applied on the spine. Unique edition. A manual for learning to read in three parts (Normal part, Practical part, Interviews of a mother with her child, Third part, Interviews [with the teacher]). Nine very precise progressive lessons in a rather playful way, a recurrent theme of the texts where one should not make the learning exercise a torment for the child. Four plates, finely engraved on copperplate, signed L. Emery, show, for the first, objects alone, objects with captions and captions alone, the second indicates the geometrical forms to draw the letters, the third, three alphabets in cursive writing of decreasing size and the fourth, cursive capitals and numbers. Volume 1 of the Bibliothèque de l'enfance. Good copy. Period pamphlet, the paper from a cutout on the second cover has been applied to the spine.
