Modern protective slipcase, midnight blue half morocco. Very rare copy in bright period colors. Manual and primer to introduce the youngest to the English language. First booklet of sixteen pages, on pink paper, devoted to different alphabets, follow progressive syllabaries, in English, underlined by the translation. Useful lessons, in the form of questions and answers, in both languages, and numbers. In the center of the book, eighteen plates are engraved with six horizontal bands, the name of the object or animal in both languages, on the left, and a fine colored and sometimes gummed engraving, on the right. On the opposite page, in identical bands, a sentence in both languages defines the engraving. The work is completed with stories of one syllable in English translated into French. A perfectly preserved copy with rubbing along the spine. Provenance: A. S. Williams, Woolland, 1891, with his bookplate.
