(4) pp, (24) chromolithographed plates on front, 16 pp. (4 pp, (24) plates chromolithographed on the front, 16 pp.): publisher's album, carmine percaline spine, burgundy paper boards, chromolithography applied to the first, title in an ornate circle, bespectacled cherub holding an alphabet board, couple of young children with book and doll at foot.
Twenty-four large chromolithographed plates with, for each, a scene with multiple characters, ornaments and occurrences finely drawn by the artist engraver and watercolorist Rudolf Geißler (Nuremberg 1834-1906).
Gothic initial on a colored block, Latin initial at the top left and lower case at the right. The occurrences, to be found in the illustration, are listed in the lower margin. Two pages of alphabets in different typographies begin the book and sixteen pages of prayers and first readings complete it.
Childish handwriting in ink on pages 12-13. Small cracks at the head of the first leaf and at the foot of plate O. Endpapers renewed.

Alphabetical list of first names lithographed in vivid colors on a strong paper. One page per letter (no I, x and Y on the same page). Gothic and Latin initials at the top, a scene with a child in a central circle, his first name in blue or red, some mirliton verses describing the scene at the bottom. The rest of the page is filled with many objects and animals whose names begin with the initial. Alexander to Zerline.
