HADOL (Paul). CORDIER (A.). - Lot 187
HADOL (Paul). CORDIER (A.). The Fantasmagoria. Alphabet. The Amusing Alphabets. By Hadol & A. Cordier. At the Journal Amusant, 20 rue Bergère, & at H. Plon, publisher, 8, rue Garancière. Paris. [About 1862]. Typ. H. Plon, rue Garancière, 8 (15,5 x 11,7 cm). Leporello of (24) lithographed plates in color on black background: publisher's ivy green paper boards, lithographed title in color applied on the first board and framed with a frieze of gilt embossed paper, Pierrot, bass drum player and grotesque girl on a stage. Twenty-four grotesque plates illustrated by Paul Hadol (1835-1875), draftsman and caricaturist and A. Cordier, also illustrator. Twenty-four lithographs (no W, I and J on the same plate) in colors on a black background, like a magic lantern projection. They are caricatures of the most incredible characters with small bodies topped by large faces. The initial in gradations of colors is placed at the top left, the legend at the bottom in the white frame left free. Amazing plate of humanized racks. Very rare leporello. Well preserved.
