HENRY (Maurice). Les Métamorphoses du vide.... - Lot 197 - Ader
HENRY (Maurice). Les Métamorphoses du vide. Les Éditions de Minuit. [Paris. 1955]. In-4 (27 x 21 cm). (64) pp. [half with cut-outs]: green cloth spine, first cover illustrated in color yellow with central cut-out revealing the first page, publisher's initials in blue in the center of the second. First edition of the surrealist book with transformations created by Maurice Henry (1907-1984). Poet and painter, he will join in 1933 the surrealist group of Breton, will participate in all the exhibitions, often linking the humor to the art. His work was awarded the Grand Prix National des Arts Graphiques in 1983. Originally planned for the Sagittarius editions a "Small Mythology" with cut-outs had been planned for Christmas 1953. "A fire occurred in the carrier's warehouse on January 5, 1954. All the copies were reduced to ashes and a new production was launched. The final publication would not take place until 1955." The cover of this small print run went through two versions, this one the rarer one and the first one, with cutouts, was soon abandoned "due to the technical difficulties of perforating." Thirty-two leaves, sixteen of them cut out, in primary colors: deformations and openings listing all the spells of Adrien the hero's dreams. In mint condition with the rare yellow openwork cover.
