RANDON (Gilbert). Military alphabet. At the Journal amusant, 20, rue Bergère & at Plon, publisher, 8, rue Garancière. [Paris. ca. 1856]. (58,5 x 44,5 cm). Lithographed plate, colored with stencil, applied on a wooden board cut into 25 rectangles, each rectangle cut in two in the form of a puzzle, stored in a box of reused burgundy chagrined paper. Lithographed board applied on wood and cut in a craft way to transform it into a puzzle. Gilbert Randon (1814-1884), French draftsman and caricaturist, collaborated with many newspapers including the Journal amusant which began publication in 1856. On the reverse, the craftsman has pasted old manuscripts, notarial acts, some from Orleans, where we can read the dates of 1684 and 1733. A title box and twenty-four rectangles of two military, a central red initial, legends in foot in a white band. Complete plate and rare well-preserved set.
