Religious, moral, instructive and amusing primer.
Followed by Elémens d'Arithmétique, à la portée des enfans; decorated with very nice vignettes representing subjects from the Old and New Testaments, drawn by Rœhn, and engraved by Dorgez, Delignon, Dupreel, etc. By a former teacher. Second edition, revised and corrected. At the Economic Bookshop, rue de la Harpe, n° 94, former College of Harcourt. 1807. In-12 (15,4 x 9,3 cm). Frontispiece, 76 pp. 8 engraved and colored plates : half green chagrined paper (Modern binding).
Uncommon second edition. Progressive primer illustrated with nine engraved and colored plates, work of the painter Adolphe Roehn (1780-1867).
Beginning with a syllabary, it ends with short texts of first readings, all on religious subjects, and seven pages of arithmetic. Six of the nine plates are from biblical themes and four of the plates, including three depicting objects, are signed by the engraver and draftsman Jean-Baptiste Bigant. First edition in 1806.
Light foxing, lower corner of pages slightly stained with ink and alphabet on page 30 with small pen strokes of the time.
